Motherboards for everyone

The computer hardware manufacturing company Jetway recently announced the release of a line of motherboards based on the new AMD chipset RX780. Those motherboards are named A780S and A780G and they offer support for AMD's AM2 processors, both single and dual core processors, including those which use Hyper Transport version 3.0. The memory that is intended for use with these boards is DDR2 running at a frequency of 800MHz and of course dual channel memory addressing is also supported.

According to the hardware news site OCW, the Jetway motherboards based on AMD's RX780 chipset are coming with some extensive RAID support such as the 0, 1, 10 configuration that are backed up by the presence of 4 Serial ATA second generation connectors and one Parallel ATA port. Intended to be used as middle level boards, Jetway fitted both the A780S and the A780G motherboards with only one PCI Express 16X slot, so no multi graphics cards solutions are available on systems centered around these boards. A PCI Express Gigabit LAN controller is available for high LAN and Internet speeds, while the 8 channel high definition audio system ensures proper audio experiences.

Apart from a line of AMD supporting motherboards, Jetway released a new line for Intel processors as well. Based on the Nvidia single channel memory chipset MCP73, the N73 series of mainboards starts off with the models N73SMG-D and N73VMS. Both motherboards use the Nvidia 630I or the 610I chipsets. The N73SMG-D model uses the 630I chipset that is also known as the GeForce7025/nForce630i (codenamed MCP73S), while the other models use the 610I chipset, the GeForce7025/nForce610i (codenamed MCP73V). Built for Intel processors, these motherboards can accommodate CPUs packed in the LGA775 form factor and single channel DDR2 memory running at a frequency of 667MHz.

While both chipsets support the same basic features, there are a number of major differences. A GeForce70xx integrated GPU with Purevideo, mATX form factors, 4 SATA II ports and an ATA one as well as a high definition audio system are the common points. While the N73SMG-D supports processors with the faster 1333MHz frontside bus, the N73VMS can only go as far as 1066MHz. In the networking department, the 630 based motherboard has an extended 10/100/1000 LAN card that is based on the RTL8111B chip, while the other mainboard supports only a 10/100 LAN connection.
