A couple of days ago, Jessica Simpson made her big post-pregnancy reveal: she debuted a slimmer figure (by Weight Watchers) and showed off her adorable baby girl Maxwell. It’s that photo of Maxwell that’s now getting her in hot waters.

The interview in question took place on the premiere episode of Katie Couric’s new show “Katie,” where Simpson also showed the photo of her daughter.

It had her being held up by an adult (not pictured), rocking a mohawk and sporting a two-piece, crocheted mustard bikini.

British child welfare charity Kidscape believes putting a 4-month-old child in such a swimsuit is totally inappropriate and wrong, the Daily Mail informs.

“It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini. Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and behaviors are copied widely,” Claude Knights, director of Kidscape, says for the British tab.

“It is to be hoped that parents will understand that ‘baby bikinis’ are totally inappropriate, and that they contribute to the commercialization of childhood,” Knights goes on to say.

“We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children’s early years,” Knights adds.

As it happens, many others agree and they’re not afraid of saying so on Twitter.

The moment Maxwell’s photo started to make the rounds online, it drew either cries of rapture and delight or of outrage.

Many thought Simpson must be “out of her mind” to dress up her baby like that and then show the photo to the world. Others deemed it “ridiculous,” “wrong” and “just awful.”

As of now, Jessica is yet to respond to the controversy she created without even aiming to. Chances are she’s not even aware of it: she just recently said she stopped going online after she saw the kind of things people were writing about her for gaining weight.
