What with all the announcements coming from Marvel in the past couple of weeks, fans don’t need rumors and speculation to make things even more complicated for them in terms of understanding the studio’s Phase 3, which includes releases through 2019.

Jessica Chastain didn’t get the memo and she caused some tension online with a new interview with MTV News, in which she seems to be teasing the possibility of playing Captain Marvel in the standalone movie that will be coming out in 2018.

Captain Marvel will be the studio’s first-ever movie with a female superhero as lead, so whoever nabs the part is pretty much set financially (and career-wise too) for the rest of her life. So far, no names have been linked to it, but Jessica seemed to hint that hers should have been – because she met with Marvel to discuss the possibility.

As it turns out, this was just a misunderstanding, she later clarified on Twitter. On the bright side, she might appear in a Marvel movie farther down the line, because she talks about having met with studio bosses with the purpose of finding a meatier role for her.

Jessica won’t play “the girl” or the “boring” civilian, she laughs. However, from what she’s saying, she might play just that because she explains that Marvel informed her that her character would later evolve into a more complex one. Any guesses on who that might be?

Until we get to see her in this role, whichever it will be, Jessica Chastain can be seen now in “Interstellar,” director Chris Nolan’s most recent film, also starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Michael Caine.
