In recent years, Jessica Alba seems to have made a definite move towards other branches of showbiz than acting, starting her own green business and rebranding herself as a businesswoman, mother and fashion icon. Acting is still in her blood, though.

The stunning mother of 2 graces the cover of the March 2014 issue of Nylon magazine, showing the world just why she’s come to be regarded by fashion gurus as one of the fiercest and most original fashionistas in Hollywood.

In the accompanying interview, Jessica explains that, no matter what, she will always return to her first love: acting. “It's been liberating to be able to play someone who's a [tough girl] or promiscuous because that's the opposite of who I am… It's like a drug,” she explains.

It’s this stark contrast from who she is in real life to who she helps bring to life on the big screen that acts as a very powerful motivator. “I don't have to be a boss; I don't have to be a wife; I don't have to be a sister,” she stresses.

She’s probably talking about her role in “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” which comes out later this year. In this film, the sequel to “Sin City,” Alba returns as Nancy Callahan, though she once hinted she wouldn’t be dancing on tables anymore, but play a much tougher version of that character.

Doing roles this varied has also helped Jessica grow up, become more professional in her approach to different projects.

“Before I was so fearful of failure and judgment that I was scared to put myself out there. [Now I know] you don't have to be a robot, you don't have to be appropriate all the time. [Plus,] I know how to ride a motorcycle, I can do wire work like you see in the circuses. I can shoot a gun. I know how to fight, too,” she tells the mag.

Though her movie roles have been getting less media and public attention than before, Alba seems to be doing just fine as it is: she’s been working steadily all these years in both film and her own business efforts.

Her goal seems to have been that of moving away from her image as a “hot girl” who only looked good in bikinis and, as such, always had to be wearing a pair no matter the film she was doing. Today, Alba is seen as a savvy businesswoman, a loving mother and a very sharp dresser. She might not be too much of an actress still (in the eyes of many) but, otherwise, she’s doing just fine.
