This Tuesday, Jesse James will open up for the first time since the cheating scandal blew up in the media, when it emerged that he’d been very unfaithful to his wife Sandra Bullock with various women. Since then, Bullock has filed for divorce and has moved on to adopt 3-month-old baby Louis as a single parent, with James just now coming clean about how much he wanted to protect her and, ironically enough, how he hurt her.

Sitting down with ABC’s Nightline, James even sheds a tear when reminded how Sandra took the stage at the Oscars to say that, until just then, she had no idea what it was like to have someone covering her back. The interview airs this Tuesday, but new excerpts from it have been made available and, as People informs, they show James taking all the fault for his infidelity. He even says that, deep down inside, he must have wanted to get caught cheating.

“Jesse James says he knew Sandra Bullock would catch him cheating sooner or later – and that he wanted to be caught, because deceiving her sickened him. ‘When I was doing it, you know, one, I knew it was horrible, it made me feel horrible,’ James tells ABC’s Nightline in an interview airing Tuesday. ‘And two, I knew I would get caught eventually, and I think I wanted to get caught... It was me trying to self-sabotage my life’,” People writes of new footage released from the Jesse James interview.

“Asked why he’d hurt someone who was – and he says still is – the most important person in his life, James is at a loss for words. ‘It’s hard for me to talk about, a little bit, because I still really love her and care about her,’ he says. But the West Coast Choppers owner, 41, is under no illusions about the level of that hurt. ‘I’ve spent my whole life with the kids and with her trying to... protect her from everything, but the most hurt she’s ever been caused is by the person that wanted to protect her,’ he says,” the publication further writes.

In the same video, which is also embedded at the end of the article, a Jesse James apparently on the verge of tears also says he took everything he had good in his life (and an excellent one it was) and threw it away. With all that, many continue to remain unconvinced of his honesty and good intentions in doing this interview, saying he’s only out to do as much damage control as possible.
