Jerry Bruckheimer's name is associated with lots of successful titles, like Pirates of the Caribbean or Bad Boys. Now it seems that we can associate his name with Prince of Persia, too - the next big thing he's going to bring to the screen.

According to Collider.com, the Prince of Persia filming could start sometime in June 2008 if the script writers strike doesn't change Bruckheimer's plans. The director is already hired, Mike Newell who, according to Bruckheimer is "a very inventive, ingenious director and I think he's going to bring something really special to it. We're just starting to...we have a screenplay, we're just starting to develop the look of it. It'll be unique and fresh." Mike Newell worked at one Harry Potter movie and he directed Donnie Brasco.

Unfortunately, no casting information has been announced, but fans would definitely like to see Yuri Lowenthal grabbing the lead role. We just wonder who will be chosen to be Kaileena...Apart from that, one thing is very likely to happen: the Prince of Persia movie will turn into a franchise. "It's a big production and if they work it's another character that you can take on other adventures", Bruckheimer said.

While many things are still to be decided, there is one that is certain: the movie will be a period film, not a contemporary one - 8th or 9th Century, most likely. That's good. It would've felt strange to see our Prince of Persia fighting in supermarkets or airplanes.

"It's a game that was brought to us early on and I thought it was very exciting and thought it was interesting. First of all it's an interesting period and it's something that other people weren't doing", Bruckheimer explained the reason he took the PoP franchise to move it to the big screen. But there's still a lot of time left until this actually happens.
