He went a bit overboard but he’s right about what he said, the actor explains

Last week, Jeremy Irons stepped on many toes when, in an interview with The Huffington Post Live, he spoke of his fears that gay marriage would somehow legalize incest for tax reasons. In a post on his official blog, he explains what exactly he meant by that.

Apparently, he went a bit overboard with what he said but, at the end of the day, he was still right, he writes.

He never expected his comments to cause such a ruckus online because he imagined the Internet was the place where he could speak his mind without being called names.

“I am deeply concerned that from my on line discussion with the Huffington Post, it has been understood that I hold a position that is anti gay. This is as far from the truth of me as to say that I believe the earth is flat,” Irons writes.

He calls his incest argument “mischievous but nonetheless valid,” but insists that society should find a way to make gay marriage possible, or at least something closer to the idea of marriage.
