14 DAY TRIAL // Jenny McCarthy is getting ready to walk down the aisle for the second time, as she and boyfriend of 8 months Donnie Wahlberg have just gotten engaged. She broke the news on The View and was joined on the show by Donnie himself, who came for a quick hug and a big round of congratulations.
This will be Donnie’s second marriage as well. Once he marries Jenny, they will have three children in between them: Evan, Jenny’s son with first husband Josh Asher, and Xavier and Elijah, Donnie’s sons with first wife Kim Fey.
Donnie and Jenny started dating sometime last July and went public almost immediately. By September, when she started her new job as The View co-host on ABC, they were already using the L-word when talking about their romance and how fabulously they got along.
As such, it was only natural for Jenny to break the engagement news on The View as well. As you can see in the video below, she showed the other co-hosts her giant engagement ring, saying it was a yellow sapphire, she jumped and ran around the studio, and eventually settled down to tell the world how the proposal happened.
It was the most romantic thing ever because Evan was also involved in it. Donnie went to the bedroom, leaving Jenny on the couch in front of the TV, and sent Evan in to deliver to her handwritten notes reading “will,” “you” and “Mary” (the typo was intentional). At last, he came out, having written on his shirt “me?”
“He asked, ‘Will you marry me?’ and I of course said yes. And in that moment, Evan yelled, ‘I have another dad! I have another dad.’ And it was just – it made all of us cry. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. He's so wonderful,” Jenny explained, tearing up.
She didn’t say anything about wedding plans or an estimated wedding date but, considering how excited she was to finally break the news, it’s understandable she didn’t think of that as well. The other ladies on The View swore they “had no idea about it,” though it seems difficult to believe Donnie would be backstage and no one knew why.
Before Donnie, who is brother to Mark Wahlberg and a member of the late ‘80s pop sensation band New Kids on the Block, Jenny famously dated Jim Carrey for several years. It is said the split was anything but amicable, and there are even some rumors Jenny was paid many millions in an agreement with Carrey that aimed to bar her from spilling the beans on the relationship and the breakup.
