This is one of those Hollywood behind-the-scenes story that usually comes out only years after the premiere. Which is fitting since the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” is preparing to air its finale in a few months’ time.

The odd bit of news was made public by the series co-creators, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, who took to Reddit's “Ask Me Anything” event on Monday afternoon.

The juiciest bit of gossip to come out of that session was the fact that the role of Robin, the Canadian pop star turned journalist was originally supposed to go to Jennifer Love Hewitt, but according to the producers, she chose to do “The Ghost Whisperer” instead of “HIMYM.”

The producers also promised that fans are going to shed a few tears until the series reaches its finale so get those tissues ready. Part of the finale was shot back in 2006, when the show first started out, because the creators feared the main actors would change in appearance.

“How I Met Your Mother” is set to end on March 31, 2014.
