Jennifer Love Hewitt plays the main part in a new CBS drama, called "Ghost Whisperer", which is scheduled for Fridays this fall at 8:00 p.m ET/PT.

The new TV series about a woman who can communicate with earthbound spirits was co-produced by James Van Praagh, who is said to be one of the foremost mediums in the world. Praagh, who once had a syndicated daytime talk show called Beyond with James Van Praagh, and has also written a book entitled Talking to Heaven said that those ghosts are ones with unfinished business and can't pass on to the afterlife until they have resolved them.

For Hewitt, moving from film to another television series was a tough decision, as she has told reporters after a TCA summer session panel at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for her new show.

"I needed to find something that would draw my passion out as much as Party of Five, and this script was amazing", Hewitt mentioned.

When asked about the comparisons between "Ghost Whisperer" and "Medium", the NBC hit starring Patricia Arquette as a woman who sees dead people too, Hewitt replied:

"We're both female, married, and we happen to be able to deal with the dead. (…) The difference, she sees them in dreams, I deal with them up close and personal. I'm their last best friend on earth. I don't solve crimes, I solve crimes of the heart. It's an honor to be talked about in the same sentence as a hit show. I watch that show and she is great in it. I'm glad we're not on the same night."

When she went into the pilot, Jennifer Love Hewitt was terrified, thinking that was a show about dead people.
"After I shot the pilot, I thought, this experience has taught me that I need to live my life better, I want to live every day for the moment. I hope this show inspires viewers to live better and say hello to someone they haven't spoken to in a while", said the actress, who is no longer terrified of death.
