The 2009 American Music Awards aired this Sunday from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater and, for viewers on the East Coast, it came with several very “unique” moments, for lack of a better term. Aside from Adam Lambert’s full, unedited performance of “For Your Entertainment,” the original broadcast also included Jennifer Lopez’s fall while singing “Louboutins,” her new single off the upcoming “Love?” album, which was later edited out, as TMZ writes.

As we also reported the other day, Jennifer Lopez made her comeback to the music stage at the AMAs, performing live fresh material off her forthcoming album. The entire performance was centered on a boxing theme, with the stage as the arena where the main event took place. Lopez and her dancers, all dressed as boxers, came in through the audience and, at the sound of the gong, started off a very lively dance routine that got viewers on their feet – and Lopez herself on her bum.

Lopez climbed on the backs of the dancers, arched to make a human staircase and then jumped, slipped, and fell on her backside. However, she also quickly sprung back on her feet and continued dancing. The entire thing aired live, but viewers on the West Coast did not see it, as ABC edited it out. “If you watched the AMAs last night on the West Coast, then you missed the highlight of the evening – when JLo botched a jump and fell flat on her infamous rear. Anyone who saw the show live was treated to the booty bailout – but when it re-aired on the left coast, a slow-mo shot of Lopez was added making it look like she pulled off a perfect dismount,” TMZ writes.

The singer herself tried to downplay the entire incident in the aftermath of the awards, telling the media that, even if it looked like she fell because she had been careless enough to let it happen, it was not actually so. As RapUp informs, Lopez’s initial reaction to the fall was to laugh it off, joking that it was part of the routine, with the obvious ultimate purpose of getting people to talk about it.

“Did I trip a little bit? I don’t even remember. I meant to do that. You should know me better than that. That was part of the controversy.” The singer joked on KIIS FM’s Ryan Seacrest radio show. However, on a more serious tone, she stressed that people focusing on the fall should also pay attention to how she handled it – like a real champ, as most fans and media outlets said. “The measure of things is not what happens when you fall, it’s how you handle when you fall,” Lopez added.
