Just days before her marriage to Marc Anthony came to pieces officially and they issued a joint statement on their decision to get a divorce, Jennifer Lopez turned to ex Ben Affleck for advice – or, at least, her mother did on her behalf, it has emerged. Guadalupe, who accompanied Jennifer to the BAFTA event in LA where she met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – admittedly, the first sign that the marriage to Marc was in serious trouble – reached out to Affleck as she heard her daughter’s personal life was in the dumps.
Us Weekly claims to have it on very good authority that Guadalupe sent Ben an email and that he replied to it, offering whatever advice and consolation he could to Jennifer, whom he dated and was engaged to for 18 months before she met Marc.
“Guadalupe Lopez, the singer-actress’ mother sought Affleck’s advice on July 12, multiple sources confirm in the new Us Weekly, out Wednesday. ‘Guadalupe reached out to Ben over email. She wanted advice for Jennifer,’ reveals a source,” the publication writes.
As per the same insider, Guadalupe never really liked Marc but, on the other hand, she always valued Ben and held his opinion in very high regard.
It is believed she was very happy with the reply she got from Ben, who is now happily married to Jennifer Garner, with whom he has two adorable daughters.
Other spies say for the same publication that it was Jennifer who ended the marriage, but only after she realized she couldn’t take his controlling and “abusive” ways any more.
“It was a very bad marriage, and Jennifer got the courage to end things. [Marc] was a terrible husband,” the insider reveals.
Lopez may project for the public the image of a diva, but she’s far from that in real life, which is something that Marc exploited to keep her locked in the marriage for as long as possible.
“[She] actually has low self-esteem. And Marc really played into that insecurity. That’s why she put up with his abuse for such a long time,” the spy says.
Just the other day, word got out that Marc was so obsessed with controlling every aspect of Lopez’s life that he even
vetoed on her wardrobe choices, forcing her to wear only clothes that a “traditional wife” and mother of two would wear.
