14 DAY TRIAL // Jennifer Lopez, a 43-year-old mother of two, thrice divorced, is now dating her 25-year-old backup dancer Casper Smart. They have been together for more than a year and, if you’re wondering what’s up with the age gap, you’re not the only one: Jennifer does too.
The star sat down for an interview with this week’s issue of People magazine and, among other things, she also talks about Casper and how their romance helped her a lot to get through the heartbreak of the Marc Anthony divorce.
This isn’t just a fling, she seems to be saying, despite what the rest of the world might think: this is serious.
“I just got out of a big, heavy, devastating thing, and he’s helped me heal. He’s been there for me,” she says of her boyfriend.
At the same time, Jennifer is well aware of the age difference and, occasionally, worried about it too.
She even asked Casper why he wouldn’t find someone closer to his age, she says.
“I ask him, ‘Why don’t you go find a young girlfriend and get out of here? What do you want with me?’ And you think, ‘How long is this gonna be?’ You think, ‘Okay, in 10 years I’m going to be like this and you’re going to be like that’ and… men at that age are… I think all different things,” Jennifer admits for the first time since she embarked on the much publicized romance.
At the end of the day, though, only one thing matters: she and Casper are happy and they won’t let anyone rob them of this happiness.
“The truth is we don’t know what’s going to happen. We’re loving this moment right now. We make each other happy.”
“I don’t regret those things – that’s who I am,” she adds of her past romances and how badly they turned out.
“But at least now I’m at a point where I have to recognize that these choices and things that happen are partly because of me and my decisions and I have to be more careful. So I am being more careful,” Jennifer adds.
