One of the things often reproached to Victoria Beckham as a designer is that the severe tailoring and design of her creations only target women such as herself, meaning, with almost no body fat at all. The other day, singer Jennifer Lopez, famous for her curves, did the unthinkable and proved that any woman could
shine in a VB creation if she had enough confidence in herself – and money to afford it.
All three lines coming from Victoria Beckham put sophistication above comfort and practicality. The same goes for the beige, figure-hugging dress Lopez chose for the meeting with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus at the US Capitol. Zipped up all the way to the back, the dress clearly did not allow Lopez to walk properly, but, for what it’s worth, it looked stunning on her.
The singer matched the VB creation with beige Louboutins and the Ferragamo blush-colored “Musa” python clutch. With her hair in a simple ponytail, Jennifer Lopez was the very symbol of
elegance and sophistication, showing at the same time that not only size 0 models could strut in Beckham’s designs.
However, they say, it takes a lot of confidence to wear such a dress, especially since, because of the cut, it tends to cling to every fold, creating very unsightly bumps in areas women are most insecure about (that is, hips and
tummy). Jennifer clearly had no reason to worry about that.
Speaking of Victoria Beckham’s designs, just recently, the singer turned businesswoman turned, as of late, successful fashion designer, launched her third line of luxury frocks. With price tags that can go as high up as £3,900, the items making the Spring 2010 collection are also characterized by an almost Spartan cut, although they also make for a bold splash of color, as opposed to the designs in the first two collections.
“I try on everything. I make the dresses for me. I know I used to be in a pop group and I’m married to a footballer – a very lovely footballer. But I’m grateful that people are prepared to leave their preconceptions at the door and let the dresses speak for themselves. The sell-through has been amazing.” Victoria Beckham said
at the launch of the third fashion collection about the surprising reaction women had to her first foray in the fashion industry.
