A long time ago (well, actually not that long, but that's how every good story begins), Jennifer Lopez's name was the only name on people's lips when it came to ultimate diva: fur-clad and with as much bling bling on her body as possible, the Latino singer took the international charts by storm. Eventually, it all showed in her behavior.
Ever since she was dating hip-hop mogul P. Diddy, rumors about her behavior when the cameras were off abounded. The tabloids used to write on a daily basis about the singer who claimed to be 'Jenny from the block' in her music but who, when away from the eyes of the media, acted like a princess. So, like the princess that she was, she expected people to act towards her accordingly - Jen was said to be the perfect example of 'diva' attitude.
Well, all that is in the past now. At least, that's what Jennifer said in a recent interview. The singer, who is now promoting her latest album, the all-Spanish 'Como Ama Una Mujer' ('How a Woman Loves'), stated that she no longer wants to be associated with the image she used to promote a while ago and the first step into that direction (namely, of breaking free from the past) is to kill off her name. 'I'm not JLo any more. That's all gone with all the ridiculous stories about tantrums and Egyptian sheets. That's all my past.', the singer told 'The Guardian'.
If she's no longer JLo that doesn't mean that she's about to change her name again (a la P. Diddy): from now on, she would rather be referred to by her own name, the one with which she broke on the music stage. 'I'm Jennifer Lopez. I think, as a woman, I've finally grown more sure of who I am. It does seem ironic that it has taken me more than a decade to basically get back to who I am. I am incredibly proud of my culture and I think I am a woman who is totally defined by my culture. My temperament, my body shape, the way I am is all very much Puerto Rican.', Jennifer explained.
In the same interview with the British newspaper, Jennifer also added that, for the first time in her career, she is really proud of her album. According to her, this is the most personal and emotional material that she ever worked on, and she credits her husband Marc Anthony for it. Truth be told now, if Marc is to get all the praise for 'Como Ama Una Mujer', then so be it, because the album is really very good.
