Jennifer Lopez has been promoting her new album with countless TV appearances, performances and, of course, music videos, so you probably noticed that she’s looking slimmer and in better shape than ever before. Your eyes are not deceiving you, she really did lose some weight.

Of course, that’s not to say that Jennifer was ever out of shape: she’s always had one of the most enviable figures in showbiz, mostly because, while she trains hard at the gym and no matter what diet she goes on, she never loses her trademark curves.

This time is no different but, she reveals for the latest issue of Us Weekly, going vegan did help her shed those final 10 pounds (4.5 kg) that she never quite managed to shake off after she gave birth to the twins almost 6 years ago.

As it happens, Jennifer is also in the dance studio doing rehearsals for 6 hours straight a day – every day! – but she insists losing weight and going back to excellent health is first and foremost a choice towards eating better.

“People are used to seeing me be kind of thickish, but when I started eating [vegan], right away I dropped like 8 to 10 pounds [3.6-4.5 kg]. It was a real change, but more than that I felt better and people were like, ‘Your energy’s better’… everything’s better,” Jennifer says.

She continues, “I feel great mentally and physically! I feel better when I’m in shape and taking care of myself. I did full vegan for almost four, five weeks, then I just started incorporating proteins for myself. The truth is, even if you’re 70-80 percent vegan, it’s so much better having those vegetables, greens, plant-based stuff. It’s going to change your life and health.”

Being a mother to two young children and wanting to get them started too on veganism, Jennifer did face some obstacles along the way, she admits. Everything was hard at first because the twins still wanted the “regular” version of their favorite treats instead of the vegan one but, in the end, they too came around.

They love eating vegan now, JLo says.

“I’m not an exercise fanatic. I don’t love it, but I do dance a lot for the shows, so that helps,” Jennifer says. So, as she’s preparing for her shows, she gets to spend about 6 hours working out and it doesn’t even feel like working out to her, but she still burns loads of calories. It’s a win-win.
