Singer is covergirl for Self magazine, January 2014

In case you forgot that Jennifer Lopez is 45, mother of twins, singer, television personality, actress, and businesswoman (successful, too) and that she has a body in better shape than women half her age, the January 2015 issue of Self Magazine will serve as a reminder of that.

You will find photos from the shoot included in the gallery below: JLo has the body of a superwoman, which is exactly how she likes to consider herself.

Age is nothing, she can be whoever she wants to be

For the past couple of years, Jennifer Lopez has been very vocal about how much it annoyed her to be boxed in. Like “you’re 45, you can’t dress like that” and “you’re a mother, you can’t do or say that!” type of boxing in.

Repeatedly, she has dismissed notions that women “of a certain age” should act a certain way, and that, because of it, certain things were completely off-limits to them. She’s not like that and she believes no woman should be judged but her accomplishments because everything else is her choice.

“I want to prove to everyone that I can do everything and be a superwoman,” Jennifer says. “But I have to take time for myself.”

Being a superwoman means for JLo being a mother to her 2 children with ex-husband Marc Anthony, being a singer, a television personality, an actress (she has a new movie coming out, by the way, “The Boy Next Door”), and everything else she sets her mind to be. As Jennifer sees it, she is not defined by her age or the number of minors in her care, she is defined by her actions.

She’s no cougar

In the past few years, right after her divorce from Marc, she’s often been dubbed a cougar for dating a man who was only 24 when she hooked up with him (and her 42), former backup dancer turned choreographer and aspiring actor Casper Smart.

She’s only a cougar if you believe women and men should only date people of the same age, as if an age gap were a bad thing. She doesn’t believe in that, so don’t call her a cougar.

“All the old clichés about women need to be undone. Enough already. We're in the other position now. We are desirable older, we can date younger guys and it's not this big taboo. Men have been doing this for years, and it's no big deal,” Jennifer says.

Acting is still her dream

Speaking of dating younger men, Jennifer used her experience from the Casper romance for her newest role, in which she plays a divorced mom who falls for and has an affair with a much younger man (more like a boy, actually), but later discovers that he has developed quite an obsession for her.

“The Boy Next Door” comes out in theaters in January 2015, and you will find a full official trailer embedded below. It’s not exactly promising.

Jennifer has been dreaming of a successful movie career for many years, but it’s been mostly with downs than ups so far. She enjoyed moderate success with “Maid in Manhattan” but her other films were B-list at best, earning a form of cult following but mostly harsh criticism from industry peers.

Not that this is stopping her from trying. She still has enough connections and exposure to get offers, and she will probably continue pushing in that direction until she feels there’s no more pushing left in her. Either that or she makes it big.
