Some of the greatest names in music have had year-long or even longer residencies in Las Vegas, and despite some talk that such gigs are usually the mark of a “fading” star, the artists in question have made a killing with them. Jennifer Lopez is about to join that list.

TMZ reports that she is currently in negotiations for a 1- or 2-year residency at the same venue where Britney is now performing, The Axis, Planet Hollywood. Presumably, JLo will be taking over from Brit Brit, which, again, means we can put to rest for good the rumor that Britney will be extending her stay for another year, at the very least.

Jennifer will make about $350,000 (€275,811) per show, considerably more than Britney, but she will do less shows. If she signs on the dotted line, she will end up pocketing less money that the Princess of Pop, regardless of whether she does them in 1 or 2 years.

If numbers are your thing, here are those put out there by the celebrity e-zine, which claims to have it on good authority that Jennifer is not far from closing the deal: at the end of her 2-year run, Britney will have made $29,760,000 (€23,451,814), while Lopez stands to earn $26,383,326 (€20,790,889) for her residency.

Jennifer’s contract also stipulates that she do 72 shows, 3 times a week for 24 weeks, and she gets to choose whether that will be over a period of 1 or 2 years. That is to say, if she wants to spend more time at home with the kids or doing other projects, she can stretch it for 2 years.

Even with these impressive amounts of money spent on talent, the absolute queen of Las Vegas residencies remains Celine Dion, who made $33,320,000 (€26,243,350) for 70 shows a year. And she did a few years.
