Actress says industry people shouldn't pick on her for “looking normal”

Film critics might have loved the recently released “Hunger Games,” but some of them were very harsh in their description of leading lady Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss Everdeen. As they see it, she is too “fat” for the role of a starving girl from the fictional District 12.

Tell that to Jennifer's face and she'll probably laugh even if, at the same time with amusement, she also feels a bit confused.

Industry people, let alone film critics, should not pick on her for “looking normal,” she recently told a friend when informed of what some reviewers said about her performance in the film, the Chicago Suntimes reports.

As she sees it, young girls are daily assaulted with images of anorexic-looking girls and women, so they grow up believing that this is the standard they should aspire to as well.

She, one the other hand, is closer to a normal girl in terms of her weight and figure: she's very toned and, while she's not scary thin, she's not heavy either.

“Jennifer told me, “This is hilarious. First, people say how so many actresses in Hollywood look anorexic, and now they are criticizing me for looking normal',” the spy says for the aforementioned publication.

“[Overly thin body images] 'are too often adopted by young girls and women — thanks to what they are constantly being shown as being attractive',” the insider further explains.

This certainly does sound like something Jennifer would say, especially since she's gone on the record before saying that she hated it when young female stars kept speaking of restrictive diets – when all one needs to look good is a healthy eating regimen and plenty of exercise.

Another point that Lawrence reportedly made in the same chat was that no one said anything about her male co-stars, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, both of whom are very buff.

“While most critics raved about the film and Lawrence’s performance, it was comments from the Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy (about the actress’ 'lingering baby fat'), Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir ('well-fed' body) and Hollywood Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells (calling Lawrence a 'big-boned lady') that have unleashed a torrent of furious responses from the legions of loyal Hunger Games fans,” the Chicago Suntimes writes.

However, as fans must already know, while it's true that the character Lawrence plays, Katniss, comes from a very poor district where it's common occurrence to have people die of hunger, she is a hunter.

In fact, she's such a good hunter that she can even provide for her entire family. She may feel hunger at times, but spending so much of her time outside in the woods must also make her pretty athletic – and this is precisely the word that would best describe Lawrence.
