Song from “Hunger Games” soundtrack opens big, makes Jennifer Lawrence an even bigger star than before

During her 2013 Oscar campaign, people were overdosing on Jennifer Lawrence, to the point where she came dangerously close to being labeled as insufferable as Anne Hathaway. The next year, she played it smart and kept herself out of the race, even though she was nominated again, precisely to avoid falling out of grace with her fans.

But there’s one thing about her that was said then that still holds true today: Jennifer Lawrence is incredibly talented, she’s adorable, and she can do practically anything. Even when she sings like “a tone-deaf Amy Winehouse” (her words, not mine), she does it better than the rest of the world.

Some days ago saw the release of a song called “The Hanging Tree,” which was included on the OST of the latest “Hunger Games” installment, “Mockingjay Part 1.” With a melody by indie-folk band The Lumineers and words by The Lumineers and Suzanne Collins, who also penned the “Hunger Games” books, it featured vocals by none other than Jennifer. Or Katniss Everdeen, if you will.

Earlier on, when she was promoting the film, Lawrence explained to Letterman that her most awful memory on the set of the franchise was when she was “forced” to sing in front of the entire crew, instead of just lip-synch to Lorde’s vocals.

Now, “The Hanging Tree” has had a spectacular chart performance, which literally makes Jennifer a chart-topping recording pop artist: it broke in the UK Top 40 singles and debuted in the US at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

That’s a feat that even bona fide pop stars must be jealous of. So here is proof that Jennifer Lawrence can do anything, even if she’s not qualified for it.
