“It’s not going anywhere, it’s like a camel but in reverse”

Jennifer Garner has 2 new movies coming out this year, and she’s been promoting them with a string of appearances on TV shows. One of them was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the same one on which she also talked about Ben Affleck and his “little movie” that she’s competing against.

A new video released online shows the actress addressing those numerous rumors about how she was pregnant with baby number 4, which tend to pop up in glossies and tabloids every time she’s photographed with a “baby bump.”

Yes, the baby bump is there

As you will see in the video below, Jennifer admits to having a baby bump, so at least this part of the rumors is true. However, as the ladies in the audience can’t stop screaming (with joy, we presume), she asks for a time-out to offer an explanation.

“I'm here to tell you that I do [have a baby bump]. I am not pregnant but I have had three kids and there is a bump. From now on ladies, I will have a bump. It will be my baby bump and let's all just settle in and get used to it,” Jennifer said.

“It's not going anywhere. I have a bump – its name is Violet, Sam, Sera. It’s like a camel but in reverse,” the actress added.

Then Ellen thanked her for addressing the rumor and putting an end to it in such a gracious (and very funny manner).

So, what does it all mean?

Jennifer Garner is saying that it’s unrealistic to expect a woman who carried to term 3 pregnancies to have the same kind of figure as one who didn’t. Without being so direct, she’s scolding those who scrutinize paparazzi photos of her looking for a “bump” and then pointing out their finger to yell “pregnancy!” whenever they spot it.

And they will spot it over and over again, each time they go looking for it, she’s also saying. Unlike many actresses who strive to look “perfect” at all times (and “perfect” is usually synonymous with thin and toned in Hollywood), Jennifer is going against the norm, by putting the focus back where it matters: on her family and her career.

That is to say, she’s still working and she’s spending the time she would otherwise have to spend at the gym with her husband and her kids. She still works out, because she wants to be healthy, but she’s not making it into an obsession.

So, with this apparently humoristic answer to the never-ending “baby bump” question, Jennifer is basically telling the world (and the showbiz industry in particular) to stop being such a freak about the need for stars to always look perfect, beyond reproach. Because, in her case, that will never happen again.
