Actress Jennifer Connelly has recently declared that she is against the policy of the United States Army, which enlists children under 18 years as soldiers. Connelly already signed up as the spokesperson for Amnesty International's human rights education program.
Connelly, 35, has revealed that more than 300,000 boys are used as military troops around the globe.
According to WENN.com, Connelly says: "I would be devastated personally because nothing is more precious than my two boys. Nothing can justify my willingly putting them in jeopardy.
Fortunately the US has signed onto the optional protocol for the rights of the child, which has raised the minimum age of direct participation in combat for children to 18 and we're hoping that all countries will sign on to that optional protocol.
I don't think children should be fighting wars. There are children as young as nine-years-old that have been fighting in wars."
Connelly is married to British actor Paul Bettany, whom she met while working on "A Beautiful Mind"; the couple's son, Stellan (named after Stellan Skarsgård), was born August 5, 2003. She has also a five-year-old son, Kai, from a previous relationship.
