Jennifer Aniston invested a lot of time and effort into promoting her most recent movie, but it would seem that not even the possibility to see where she and Justin Theroux met and fall in love could get her fans into theaters to see it.

“Wanderlust” bombed at the US box office in its opening weekend, Us Magazine reports.

The film, a romantic comedy also starring Paul Rudd and Theroux, opened to a mere $6.6 million (€4.9 million) over the 4-day weekend, not even making it into the top 10 movies for the same timeframe.

Because of the star power it carried and especially given the promotion it got and the fact that it starred America's number 1 sweetheart, “Wanderlust” is considered a dud by industry people.

“The actress' new movie Wanderlust tanked in its opening weekend, debuting at No. 8 with $6.6 million. The film, which also stars her real-life love Justin Theroux, reunited Aniston, 43, with her longtime pal Paul Rudd, 42, her costar in 1998's The Object of My Affection,” Us Magazine informs.

“Aniston hasn't had a No. 1 box office debut since her appearance in the 2009 ensemble rom-com He's Just Not That Into You,” adds the same media outlet.

The surprise number 1 for the weekend turned out to be “Act of Valor,” the documentary-style film shot with real-life Navy SEALs but a fictitious plotline.

“Tyler Perry's Good Deeds” came in second, with “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” “Safe House,” and “The Vow” rounding up the top 5.

“Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” and “This Means War,” both films that opened some time ago and which have been thrashed by critics for various reasons, came before “Wanderlust,” which barely made it on 8th post.

“Gone” and “The Secret World of Arrietty” were the final entries into the top 10.

Oddly enough, while audiences don't seem to enjoy “Wanderlust,” critics do – at least, they do more than they did any of Aniston's recent films.

Her latest release received a 60% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes – and any movie buff will tell you that's no small feat.
