Jennifer Aniston’s Cameo on ‘Cougar Town’ Didn’t Impress

Though word of a possible Jennifer Aniston cameo on Courteney Cox’s sitcom “Cougar Town” has been around for a little over a year, when it did eventually happen, the actual episode featuring it failed to impress audiences.

At the beginning of August, rumors started to pick up that Aniston was finally coming to the show, putting the finishing touches to the cameo with the help of the main star and real-life best friend, Courteney.

The cameo aired with the season premiere the other night and, according to Us Magazine, though very much hyped, it failed to impress audiences.

Though last year’s season premiere was very strong (11.4 million) and despite the hype around Aniston’s appearance, the episode only came third in its timeslot, which, apparently, makes it a non-winner - at least as regards expectations from the network.

“Jen Aniston’s buzzed-about guest-starring role on Wednesday’s Cougar Town didn’t drum up ratings for the ABC sitcom,” the magazine says.

“Around 12.6 million viewers watched the season premiere of the Emmy award-winning Modern Family - a successful bow. A large chunk of those viewers didn’t stick around 30 minutes later to watch Aniston, 41, reunite with Courteney Cox on Cougar Town,” the publication further says.

“According to estimates, 8.3 million viewers watched the show, which featured Aniston as a shrink. It placed third in its timeslot,” Us further notes.

As also noted above, Aniston’s role was that of a hippie-like cuckoo shrink to whom Cox’s character goes to for help in her sentimental life. By the end of the episode, she turns out to be a fake (of sorts).

The irony is that, before the actual episode aired, the segments ABC released online, featuring Aniston and Cox, got fans and critics singing praises.

Some even said that the cameo was the closest thing to evidence that Aniston should return to television – because that’s where she belongs and, most importantly, where she better shows off her comedic skills.

As we also noted on a previous occasion, this is the second time Aniston and Cox work together after their biggest hit to date, the television series “Friends” ended.

Jennifer also put in an appearance on Cox’s “Dirt,” a show about the insides of the tabloid world – and even locked lips with her at one point.
