Most celebrities promote new projects by opening up about their personal life, so even if they’re relatively media-shy and usually refuse to engage in conversations about themselves as individuals, these restrictions are no longer applicable during a promo tour.

Jennifer Aniston’s example stands out: she is now campaigning for an Oscar nomination for “Cake,” and in her most recent interviews, she opened up to the media on topics she wouldn’t have touched under normal circumstances.

Like this story about her “first love,” who died.

Jennifer makes startling confession

Even though she’s one of the most mediated celebrities of our time, commanding headlines on a daily basis, Jennifer likes to keep to herself and not do or say anything that might encourage even more false gossip.

So when she spoke to the New York Times about her role in “Cake,” how frightened she was when the movie came out, and certain aspects of her private life, it came as a shock to hear her talk about her “first love.”

“He was my first love — five years we were together. He would have been the one. But I was 25, and I was stupid. He must have sent me Justin to make up for it all,” she says.

Justin is Justin Theroux, her fiancé of a couple of years and the love of her life right now, whom she started dating in 2011. Jennifer doesn’t say who the late boyfriend she’s talking about is, probably because the topic is a painful one for her or because she wants to keep certain things a secret, if possible.

His name was Daniel McDonald

Before Jennifer met, fell in love and became engaged to Tate Donovan, she dated actor Daniel McDonald, the younger brother of Christopher McDonald. That was before she became one of the hottest young comedic actresses with “Friends,” and the Daily Mail says that they broke up because her career was blowing up and staying together became an impossibility.

Apparently, he’s the angel in heaven she’s talking about.

She moved to Los Angeles and he remained in New York, where he was doing work on Broadway. As per the same media outlet, she never really got over the difficult decision of breaking up and never stopped loving him.

In 2007, McDonald was diagnosed with brain cancer and died that same year, aged 46.
