Jennette McCurdy was notably absent at the Kids’ Choice Awards 2014 last weekend and, while many assumed that she was banned from attending by Nickelodeon bosses because of the leaked lingerie photo scandal of last month, what it all boils down to with is money.

Perhaps knowing what people thought of her not being at the Nickelodeon awards gala, Jennette, who stars with Arian Grande in the network’s biggest series right now, “Sam & Cat,” took to her Twitter to set the record straight.

She wasn’t there because she chose not to attend, she explains to her 5.13 million fans and followers. She chose not to attend because she’s not happy with the way network bosses have been treating her and, she adds, no, that has nothing to do with the furor her linger photos caused when they ended up online.

“I wish I could explain everything as thoroughly as I would like to, but unfortunately a simpler explanation is all I can write. I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me,” Jennette writes.

“I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing. I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, McCurdians and Arianators alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first. If you have done that, thank you,” she continues.

So, in a way, she’s sabotaging Nickelodeon or, as some might put it, biting the hand that feeds her. While her refusal to attend the awards gala seems justified, a TMZ report claims that she’s only doing this because she wants a bigger paycheck.

“Sam & Cat” is the network’s most successful series as we speak and Jennette doesn’t think it fair that she’s paid less than Ariana even though they share leading position. As per the report, Ariana makes “way more” money than Jennette, and the latter is thinking that she can renegotiate her contract by showing executives the kind of star power she has.

So far, it’s not been working out to her advantage because Nickelodeon honchos are not giving in to pressure from her. Negotiations have come to a halt and so have plans for season 2 of the series.

Useless to say, unless the matter is solved – one way or another –, it doesn’t look like “Sam & Cat” is coming back for a second season.
