Google’s Android Jelly Bean operating system is currently loaded on over 40 percent of the total handsets and tablet PCs powered by the platform, new data from the Internet giant unveiled.

In the two weeks ending August 1, 2013, Android 4.1.x was present on 34 percent of total devices (enjoying the largest share on the platform’s distribution charts), while Android 4.2.x powered 6.5 percent of them.

Said data from Google also reveals that Android 2.3.x Gingerbread is still present on 33.1 percent of devices, while Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich accounts for 22.5 percent of them.

Platform releases such as 3.2 Honeycomb (0.1%), 2.2 Froyo (2.5%), 2.1 Éclair (1.2%) and 1.6 Donut (0.1%) are slowly becoming obsolete, it seems.

One thing that should be noted is that these numbers represent only estimations of the distribution of the various platform releases on devices out there.
