Amy Winehouse is, as fans must know, currently residing in St. Lucia after initially heading there only for a couple of weeks of vacation. The holiday extended into a semi-permanent stay, with speculation saying that she’s even considering applying for residence. In a scathing piece in the St. Lucia Star, Jeff Fedee, a former government spokesperson, says that this is the last thing authorities should do because granting her request would only bring about misfortune and trouble.

Winehouse’s long struggle with addiction to drugs is by now well documented, as also is her current relapse into heavy drinking. If her father Mitch is well informed, Amy is no longer a druggie, since she’s now enlisted in a drug replacement program, but she’s also swapping one addiction for another, substituting heavy drugs with alcohol. It’s precisely this that should warn off authorities in St. Lucia from granting Winehouse permanent residence, Fedee argues, especially since she’s already enjoying preferential treatment for no logical reason whatsoever.

Fedee sees in Winehouse nothing short of a “tattooed reptile” who has done nothing to deserve to be so well protected as she is now in St. Lucia. While other people her age would be arrested and thrown in jail for the kind of stunts she pulls there, just because she once put out some music (of questionable quality), she is sheltered, the former government official states. “Those who sing the praises of Amy Winehouse are missing the point: she is not a good model for St. Lucian citizens, particularly the youth, despite the music. Which begs the question: what positive message is Amy Winehouse conveying to the young people out there?” Fedee says.

“She would be a menace and a dangerous influence to St. Lucian society, because the demons that inhabit her tortured body will still have to be fed and I ask whether the authorities are going to ignore the indulgences in illegal substances for which ordinary St. Lucians are arrested and incarcerated. I predict that the relative peace and tranquility that we enjoy in this country will desert us and untold misery and disasters will visit us. We cannot put the future of our country in jeopardy for the sake of the sale of a house to a character that will draw to St. Lucia untold human suffering.” Fedee further explains.

And this is not all that the guest editor has to say at Winehouse’s expense. Aside from what could happen were she granted permanent residence in St. Lucia, Fedee also points out that she’s the worst kind of publicity residents could ever want, while also being something similar to the lowest scum on the face of the Earth. As for her value as a recording artist, Fedee doesn’t really care about that either, saying that it’s the “cretinous people” who have bought her records who contributed the most to this terrible situation.
