Whenever I think of Jeep, the first thing that comes to my mind is the word "rugged", followed by the image of the very famous American vehicle that has become the emblem of offroad. And now, it seems that the company has decided to release a special GPS device designed to compliment its line of vehicles,
namely the Jeep GPS RT 300 model, slated to hit the shelves at some point in January 2008 (after CES, of course).

The first striking feature of the new GPS RT 300 is the fact that it sports an ultra-rugged rubber casing, which will certainly help keep the delicate internal components safe even when going on an adventure trip. Actually, according to the company's statement, posted on AutoBlog, the new PND "encompasses all the qualities consumers have come to expect from a Jeep vehicle - durability, reliability, ruggedness and style. With the Jeep GPS RT 300, users will always be prepared for an adventure."

The company's press release doesn't provide too many significant information regarding the device's features, but it would seem that it will include a turn-by-turn voice navigational guidance system for every state in America, as well as a GPS chipset that can provide accurate positioning information down to 3 meters. Furthermore, the PND will be equipped with 3.5 inch LCD touch screen (not exactly great), but it will also provide quite a fair amount of multimedia options, including here a built-in MP3 player, video player and eBook reader.

The new GPS RT 300 from Jeep has a MSRP of around 400 US dollars, but it's a bit too early to make any judgment of whether this is a fair price or not, simply because there's too little information regarding this thing available for the time being.

I have the RT400. A 4.3" screen. This is my first GPS. The unit is nice and easy to learn. Turn by turn will get you to your destination as long as the streets are 2 1/2 years or older. Updated/changed roeds aren't their but the gps will keep tracking you off the mapped road in your actual location. The maps on the other hand leave a bit to be desired. Missing hwy sections "miles" and older streets but still maintaining dirt roads in the area. Horizon navigtion is very responsive. But has yet not fixed the problem. Central Oregon
