Jean Claude Van Damme is, for many, far from the actor that he believes himself to be. Even so, his 2008 humoristic “JCVD” film managed to earn him some major points with the critics, for finally showing that there was more substance to him that he let the world see in the movies he made when he started off acting. Now, Van Damme is set to show the world even more of that, as he’s currently pitching “Bloodsport 2” around town.

The 1988 film spanned many sequels, but Van Damme was attached to none of them. Now, he tells TotalFilm, he is set to take the franchise and continue it with a really good movie, one that would draw its essence from real life and not other action films of the kind. He will show that, even if he’s older now and perhaps no longer as physically fit as he once was, he can still act.

“You know, like, we’re gonna do Bloodsport 2. Which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way, where the guy from Bloodsport is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son.” Van Damme tells TotalFilm. Despite the fact that things are already moving in the right direction in many aspects, it seems that the actor is having some problems with the studios in the US, as they deem the topic of an abusive father as too harsh for the public, and are consequently refusing to greenlight the project.

“They told me, ‘No, no, no! You cannot make a movie in America where a father is abusing his son physically! It’s wrong. And you cannot be a guy on drugs doing karate and [stuff] like that.’ I said, ‘Why? Why? Tell me why.’ It’s against the rules of success. But I believe the other rules of success. To show something real.” Van Damme adds.

As of now, no other details on the sequel to the classic 1988 film have been made available. However, if this does get approved and will be turned into a feature film, you will certainly find out about it here.
