3D printing is great for any vintage car restoration garage

Regular desktop 3D printers don't exactly live up to their hype, but if you've got the money, you can buy machines that put out great-looking pieces.

Jay Leno can certainly afford the best and, in an older episode of his web show Jay Leno's Garage, surfaced by 3D Printer Plans, he featured both a 3D scanner and a 3D printer.

It makes sense for him to own both, as he's got a huge collection of old cars and vehicles, and if there's one thing that's true about old cars, it's that they break down, even if they're kept in pristine conditions.

Having the ability to scan any defective part and manufacture it on site is great for a garage like this.

Granted, plastic components aren't all that good for old automobiles, but they can serve as a nice reference model when building a metal part. If you're interested, the scanner is a Next Engine 3D Scanner and the printer is a professional Stratasys Dimension 1200es.
