Actors Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have just become happy parents. The actress gave birth to her first child yesterday in Los Angeles, the Spanish El Pais informs, citing sources close to the couple.
The two, who
got married in secret in the summer of 2010, have kept their relationship very much under the radar – but they did make some appearances as a couple since
announcing the pregnancy.
The other day, while the nominations for the
Academy Awards 2011 were being announced and Bardem was named for Best Actor for his role in “Biutiful,” which is also up for Best Foreign Motion Picture, he was also becoming a daddy.
“Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are parents. Sources close to the family have confirmed the birth, but have refused to offer any other details on the baby,” El Pais writes.
This also includes the gender, with the same sources choosing not to say whether they have a boy or a girl.
“The couple’s first child was born at the Cedars Sinai Clinic in Los Angeles, where the two asked for their privacy to be fully respected,” the publication further notes.
As Penelope was giving birth, Bardem was being nominated for an Oscar for the third time in his career, prompting headlines of the type “Double the joy for Bardem: baby and Oscar.”
“Rumors on the birth of the child started to circulate shortly after the Oscars announcement ceremony, mostly because Bardem was unavailable for calls to congratulate him made by his costars in ‘Biutiful’,” the Spanish publication writes.
El Pais also says that it was the couple’s decision to have the baby in LA. It’s not known yet whether they will remain here for longer.
“Penelope moved to the US on Christmas to wait for the birth of her child. She’s hardly been seen ever since, given that her doctor urged her to avoid agitation as she waited to give birth,” says El Pais.
With Penelope on the happy moment was, of course, Javier and other members of their entire family.
