The production of the summer blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” is well under way. After it was revealed that Johnny Depp was going to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and that most of the shooting was going to take place on Australia's Gold Coast, it has now been rumored that Javier Bardem will play the “baddie” in the movie.

The Wrap claims that Bardem is currently in negotiations with Disney for the part of the villain in the upcoming movie. From what the insiders are saying, the role is supposed to be that of a ghost captain who blames Jack Sparrow for the death of his brother.

The role was initially rumored to go to Christoph Waltz, but the studio is said to have reached out to Javier after his wife, Penelope Cruz, appeared in the last installment of the franchise, somehow making her part of the family linked with the project.

Other sources claim that Geoffrey Rush is going to make a return in the fifth movie as Captain Barbossa, but other than that, the rest of the roles have yet to be cast. Orlando Bloom has expressed his desire to be left out of this movie, saying it was unlikely to return to the franchise any time soon.

The fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and is set to be released in theaters on July 7, 2017.
