14 DAY TRIAL // Ever since the 2008 meltdown that put her in hospital on psychiatric involuntary hold, Britney Spears has been under the legal conservatorship of her father, who's been calling all the shots in her life. That will change once she marries Jason Trawick, who will become co-conservator.
People magazine reports that Jason has filed the documents asking to be put in control of Britney's life with his future father-in-law.
The decision will most likely go into effect once they marry later this year and, at first, it will not put Jason in charge of the pop star's finances.
“Jamie Spears is asking a court to add Jason Trawick as a co-conservator over his pop star daughter, a source confirms to People,” the celebrity magazine writes.
“Trawick will only have shared legal control over Spears's general well being – not her finances, according to the source. In general, a conservator can make decisions over a person's food, clothing and medical care,” People continues.
However, in recent years, Britney has been enjoying more freedom, with her father keeping a closer tab on her finances and business decisions.
Having Jason named co-conservator would be more or less a “formality,” an insider explains for the aforementioned publication.
“This is a very unusual situation, because generally you don't see conservatees get married. This could be a sign that the couple's wedding is around the corner,” Jeffrey S. Cohen, an LA probate attorney who is not involved in the case, says for People.
“This is probably a compromise between Britney, her father and Trawick to get the marriage off on the right foot. Obviously, her future husband needs to have a say in her well being,” Cohen explains.
As we also noted a short while ago, Britney and Jason are said to be planning a summer wedding, a very intimate ceremony to which only close friends and family members will have access.
The two became engaged in Las Vegas right before Christmas last year, after a long courtship that began as Britney started fresh after the meltdown in 2008. Jason is credited with her comeback in music as well.
