Say what you will about his acting range but there’s no denying that Jason Statham has a body to die for. Having always loved sports, the star has taken very good care of his muscular physique until just recently, when he embarked on one of those Hollywood fad diets.

According to the Daily Star, Statham is now shooting a “Heat” (1986) remake, in which he plays a bodyguard who is also a drug addict.

Insiders from the set in New Orleans dish that, to get the body that would best go with the character, Statham has removed everything from his diet and only eats brown rice and dry spinach these days.

He believes that getting in the right physical shape for such a demanding role (or, better put, a more demanding role than what he’s accustomed to) is essential to his staying relevant.

“Jason is determined to be lean and mean and will not touch anything other than these two ingredients. He’s desperate to stay hot in Hollywood,” the spy says.

“It’s a requirement of this role to be in top shape. He is shooting in New Orleans so he is surrounded by rich, fattening food. He even has his assistant go out to the cooking area on set and order his rice and spinach so he doesn’t need to look at everything else,” adds the insider.

The problem is, as nutritionist Judy Rupp also observes, that such a diet isn’t a winning solution in the long run. On the contrary, she says.

“The premise behind the brown rice detox diet is that brown rice is eaten because it is a whole grain and the fiber plays a role in cleansing your system.

“This is the kind of diet you would see Asian fighters use in order to create a lean physique ideal for fighting. It is not a healthy or balanced approach to dieting as it lacks necessary nutrients and should only be done for seven days or so in order to cleanse the system. I would strongly advise Jason to reassess this strict diet and include other nutrients,” Rupp says.

Statham’s friends are reportedly worried sick that he’s risking his health for a movie.
