British actor Jason Statham can now be seen in Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables,” a part for which he underwent a grueling workout regime meant to help him pack extra muscle.

The results of that are now clearly visible in the latest issue of Men’s Fitness magazine, in a spread showing the actor working out and putting his well-defined muscles on display.

The photos portray him either doing sit-ups or pounding on sandbags, both of which are included in the grueling workout he underwent to get in top shape.

As a former member of the British Olympic diving team who includes mixed martial arts as his hobby, Jason was never out of shape, at least, not in the traditional sense of the word.

Still, he’s got way more definition and volume than ever – and anyone can see that without even trying too hard.

For those who consider Statham issue of Men’s Fitness just eye-candy for his female fans, the star talked a while back with Men’s Health and revealed some of his workout secrets.

“Actor Jason Statham took on a brutal new training regimen and dropped 17 pounds in 6 weeks,” the magazine said. Even Jason himself was amazed at how different he looked, as compared to how he was with a little bit more weight on.

“Jason Statham’s weight gain came the same way it does for most of us: a few too many beers and a couple of extra servings, compounded over time. Work out hard and you’ll crave calories as fuel at the same time you loathe the millstone they can form around your middle,” Men’s Health said at the time.

Statham packed a few pounds because he didn’t count calories and didn’t care that much about whether he got heavier or not – until he actually did so.

With the help of Logan Hood, a former Navy SEAL, he embarked on a routine that the mag describes in terms such as “brutal,” “nauseating” but clearly very effective.

In other words, it’s not for the faint-hearted guys out there.

“If Statham’s workout is your model, you should understand that, at times during our talk, he referred to it as horrible, nauseating, bastard, murder, nightmare, and priceless, preceding each description with the word ‘[expletive]-ing’,” Men’s Health wrote.

There are only two rules to the Statham routine: no repeats and record all workouts. For more on this, see here. And good luck.
