Country singer Jason Aldean has issued an apology to his fans and family, after he was photographed kissing another woman than his wife on a drunken night out. It was a stupid thing to do, but that’s the extent of it, he says.

Scandal broke when TMZ posted photos of Aldean out partying and getting extremely cozy with a woman who was clearly not his wife, at a club frequented by “locals and tourists always on the hunt for celebrities.”

Though the two did not leave together – in fact, Aldean left in a cab with the same friends he’d come with – the photos were more than sufficient to generate rumors of a possible affair.

The woman whom the singer was smooching so passionately turned out to be Brittany Kerr, who was on Season 11 of American Idol.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Aldean is apologizing to fans who might have felt betrayed by his behavior, insisting that nothing more than what was caught on camera happened between him and Brittany.

He owns up to messing up, but is adamant that this is the whole extent of the incident: what the photos show is a drunk man who makes a pass at a woman.

“Hey Guys – I wanted to talk to you directly, so you were hearing the truth from me and not just reading allegations made about my personal life on gossip web sites,” Jason writes.

“The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar. I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that's the end of the story,” Aldean goes on to say.

“I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. I'm not perfect, and I'm sorry for disappointing you guys. I really appreciate being able to work through this privately with my family and for all your continued support,” he adds.

Jason is married to his high school sweetheart since 2001. They have two children together, Keeley and Kendyl.
