The world of universal remote controls is vast and wide, but sometimes we happen to come across some devices that provide some pretty strange features, either in the design or the features area. And this is exactly the type of gadget you're about to see as follows, namely the GE branded Flip Universal Remote presented by Jasco, a device that tries to mimic a clamshell phone, but doesn't manage
to do a very good job.
Thus, unlike cell phone keys that are flat with the surface of the device, Jasco's GE branded Flip Universal Remote features a raised keypad, which allows the user to locate the correct button by feel alone. The raised rows interlock when the remote is shut to give a tight, secure fit and the device also features key functions on the outside, so volume, channel and power on/off can be performed even in the closed position. Moreover, as any universal remote control should, the device sports dedicated TV, VCR, DVD and Satellite/Cable buttons.
The Flip Universal Remote from Jasco features a curved shape, which allows it to easily fit in one hand while giving users easy access to the most-used keys and also provides a sleep timer function and navigation wheel to easily control volume, channel and menu selections. Moreover, the device comes with a library of more than 1,000 codes, thus allowing it to work with all major television brands.
The device has a MSRP of 18 US dollars, which actually says quite a lot about the device's overall quality. Thus, even if the concept is somehow interesting and attractive (although most users have already gotten used to the candybar shape for their devices), the quality of the finishing is not exactly fantastic and the device doesn't provide as many features as one would expect from a modern universal remote control (no macros, no touchscreen display, etc.)
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
