14 DAY TRIAL // Jared Leto is about to start production on “Suicide Squad,” the film that will bring together some of the biggest villains in the comic book universe, working as a team, but in the meantime, he’s having some fun at Paris Fashion Week.
Also here, he debuted the new look he got in preparation for the role: he’s sporting short, platinum blonde hair, and he seems to have either shaved off or bleached his eyebrows. That last part is still subject to speculation, since he refused to remove his aviator shades even when inside.
The Joker will be “majestic”
“Suicide Squad” is directed by David Ayer, who previously helmed critically acclaimed films like “End of Watch” and the more recent “Fury.” He’s been teasing fans on Twitter for some time, posting photos from the set, inside tips and even the promise that The Joker will be “majestic.”
Meanwhile, Jared has gone on a diet: he revealed in a recent interview that his nutritionist had him eating almost non-stop and that he was already training hard because he had to bulk up for the role.
Since Leto has always been in top shape, this led to speculation that he was working on delivering the most buffed up Joker of all time.
From the photos available online and those he posted on his Instagram, of his outing at Paris Fashion Week, you can’t really tell if he’s even halfway there, but the change in hairstyle is really something else. Prior to that, Leto was rocking long ombre hair and a shaggy beard, so seeing him like this is surprising.
Leto picks and chooses his roles, goes all the way
Of course, if you’re a fan of Leto’s work (as an actor, because he’s also successful as frontman of the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars), you know that he is the kind that goes all the way when he prepares for a new role.
He doesn’t do as many movies as his fans would like, because he picks and chooses only the projects that strike a chord with him, which guarantees that he will do the best job possible. Luckily for him, he’s at a point where he can go for a couple of years without doing a film.
But when he does take on a new role, he doesn’t hold back. So far, Jared has been fat, and sickly thin, muscular and “average.” He’s also changed up his hair a lot, if that’s what it took for him to get into character. For instance, the last time he had his hair bleached was for “Fight Club.”
One final note on Leto’s Joker preparations: despite the fact that most people online think that his villain will be sporting platinum blonde hair in “Suicide Squad,” based on his recent appearance, any colorist can confirm for you that this is not necessarily the case.
He could go for bright or washed-up green, which needs a light blonde as base, to come out just right. So what we’re seeing on Leto right now is not the final look, but only an intermediary stage.
