Production on the highly anticipated “Suicide Squad” from Warner Bros. is now heavily underway, with Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto, who will be playing The Joker, getting ready to start shooting scenes in character. By the way, Jared no longer looks like he did in the photo above, snapped last month at the 2015 Oscars gala.

Leto is the first actor to play the famous Batman villain since Heath Ledger, who won an Oscar posthumously for the brilliant performance in “The Dark Knight,” from director Christopher Nolan. To say that he has large shoes to fill in would be the understatement of the century, since Ledger’s performance is considered nothing short of “perfect.”

Jared Leto is on set

The other day, Leto took to his Twitter to announce his fans and followers that he was getting ready to part with his luscious locks and gorgeous beard, because the character he would be playing required it.

Leto has been breaking hearts around the world for over a year with his new, hipster-inspired look, which has even earned him comparisons to Jesus Christ. To his credit, he took those in stride, with humor.

You can see his messages on Twitter embedded below: first, he teased fans saying he had a surprise for them. Later on, he revealed that said surprise would have him missing his beard, so it wasn’t difficult for them to conclude that he was getting ready to shave it off.

Then, he posted a photo of himself getting a haircut. Goodbye gorgeous ombre hair!

He also posted a photo of his “after” look: you can find that one too below, but it’s not revealing in any way as regards possible clues of how The Joker might look in the film.

David Ayer is busy, happy to share details with fans

David Ayer is directing “Suicide Squad,” a movie that takes some of the most dangerous villains from the comic book universe and brings them together as a crime-fighting unit under government orders. Ayer’s previous directing credits include “Fury” and “End of Watch,” so if there’s one director who can deliver a dark, grimy and twisted film, Ayer is definitely it.

Jared Leto is part of a solid ensemble that also includes Will Smith and Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney. Until some time ago, Tom Hardy was also attached, playing the leader of the group, Rick Flagg, but he had to drop out because of his already packed schedule.

It is believed that Warners is looking at Jake Gyllenhaal as a possible replacement, which makes sense, since Ayer worked with him before, to amazing results, on “End of Watch.”

Until an announcement confirms Gyllenhaal’s casting, we have Leto bulking up for The Joker role and Ayer teasing fans on social media with all kinds of details about the movie. So, we know The Joker will be “majestic” and we have a good look at some of the weapons that will be used.

You can find some of his tweets and photos on the topic right after Jared’s.

“Suicide Squad” will be out next year, both in 2D and 3D.
