A recent poll from Famitsu, the best known Japanese video game magazine, has shown that gamers are most interested in getting the PlayStation Vita handheld and Monster Hunter 3G, launched for the Nintendo 3DS, as gifts for the coming Christmas season.

When it came to hardware the Nintendo 3DS was second in terms of preferences while the PlayStation 3 came in a distant third.

The PlayStation Vita will be available in Japan starting with December 17.

Here are the top ten most wanted video games: Monster Hunter 3G, Mario Kart 7, Final Fantasy XIII-2, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land, Gundam Extreme VS, Hot Shots Golf 6, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

It's interesting to note that while Japanese gamers are interested in some big Western releases the top ten is still dominated by a number of games created by developers from the country with the home audience in mind.
