The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department will teach investigators from local police stations how to handle cybercrimes in an effort to avoid wrongful arrests.

According to Yomiuri Online, the decision comes after police arrested four innocent individuals whose computers had been abused by a virus to make threats on their behalves.

A man suspected of being the creator of the virus was arrested, but authorities don’t want to repeat the incident, which is why around 100 cybercrime specialists from the Metropolitan Police Department will help their colleagues understand how such crimes work.

The experts will focus on how the Internet works, hacking wireless networks, and how computing devices can be remotely controlled with the aid of malware.

To ensure that officers will stay on top of cybercrime cases, the lessons will be periodically updated.
