An alert mechanism that looks like it's inspired by the movie Star Trek

Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), the organization that has recently assisted Fujitsu in cracking 278-digit pairing-based cryptography, has developed Daedalus, a system that displays in 3D and real time when and where cyberattacks occur.

The name most likely comes from Daedalus, the mythological character described by the Greeks as being the skillful craftsman that created the famous labyrinth in which the minotaur was kept.

While at first glance it may seem a difficult representation, it’s actually quite simple. The big blue sphere in the middle represents the Internet and the smaller circles that revolve around it represent the monitored networks, DigiInfo TV reports.

Whenever a company is attacked, an alert pops up, along with a visual representation of the attack, which allows researchers to learn the details of the breach.

Currently, 190,000 IP addresses from Japan are being observed by NICT.
