The Last of Us, the most recent launch from developer Naughty Dog, has taken over the number one position in the Japanese software chart, while the Nintendo 3DS handheld continues to be the best-selling piece of hardware in the country.

The 3DS has managed to sell 43,269 units for the week that ended on June 23, a decline of about 4,000 units over the previous week, while the PlayStation Vita continues to improve its numbers, reaching 13,422 in order to take second spot.

The good performance of The Last of Us, which delivered 117,465 units to gamers, has not pushed up sales of the PlayStation 3 and the Wii U has also seen a slight decline, according to Media Create numbers.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is the second best-selling title of the week, with 42,247, while the third position on the podium was picked up by Friend Collection: New Life.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Kami Jigen Idol Neptune PP, Kuma-Tomo, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Sayonara Umihara Kawase, Storm Lover 2nd and Ro-Kyu-Bu! Lost Secret.
