PopCap Games is officially discounting the prices of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad ports of Bejeweled, Bookworm, Chuzzle, Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies, as well as other popular titles, for 48 hours to raise funds for Japan.

PopCap is just one of several iOS developers to announce discounts on their software offerings in light of the recent tragic events occurring in Japan, where Apple itself has done everything in its power to help surviving victims, even housing them inside its retail stores.

Following Capcom’s recent announcement regarding the Street Fighter IV price drop with the same purpose, PopCap is doing its bit by partnering with the Red Cross to donate all of its revenues from the sales of the discounted apps.

The sale begins Saturday, March 19 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and ends at midnight PDT on Sunday, March 20, PopCap said.

According to the developer, the price of each iPhone and iPod touch title is reduced to 99 cents during this timeframe.

The iPad versions of the games enumerated just above will be reduced to 1.99.

“Consumers can purchase the games via the Apple App Store or by going to PopCap.com,” the developer said. Either way, customers end up on the iTunes App Store where downloading any of the games is just a click away.

"We recently opened an office in Tokyo, and while our Japan-based employees are safe and uninjured, we understand countless others in Japan need food, shelter, and medical attention," said Ellen Marett, senior director of Workforce Culture at PopCap.

"Given that Plants vs. Zombies reached #1 on the iPhone and iPad sales charts in Japan, it seemed like the most appropriate game to feature in this fundraising campaign," he said.
