The Sony-made PlayStation Portable handheld has managed to sell better on the Japanese market than the recently released Nintendo 3DS device, as seen in the sales numbers offered by tracking firm Media Create for the week that ended on April 3.

The PSP has managed to again increase the number of units that it has sold, from 50,479 to 53,379, in part helped by a good software line up.

Meanwhile the Nintendo 3DS, despite the new technology it incorporates, has gone in the other direction, reaching just 42,979 units sold, down from 50,710 during the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation 3 has managed to keep its now-customary third position in Japan, managing to move 27,453 units to customers, down from 28,973 during the week before this one.

The Nintendo Wii has also seen a small decrease in sales for the week but has kept number four in the hardware chart while the LL version of the DSi handheld has maintained its position with a very small variation in sales.

The rest of the hardware chart is made up of: the DSi, the PlayStation 2, the Xbox 360, the PSP Go and the DS Lite.

When it comes to video game sales the big winner of the week that ended on April 3 is Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 – Professional, which was launched by Square Enix for the DS from Nintendo, with sales that reached 163,008 copies and managed to take the number one position.

Another new entry, Amagami from EBKore+ for the PSP, has occupied second place in the video game chart with sales of 69,221 units moved to gamers.

Lat week's number one, Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection from Square Enix and for the PSP, has slipped down to third spot, with sales of 31,382 units.

The rest of the top ten is made up by: Dynasty Warriors 7, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II, Amagami for the PS2, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 Capcom, Dissidia: 012 (Duodecim) Final Fantasy, Pro Baseball Family Stadium 2011 and Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity.
