The Nintendo 3DS continues to be the most loved piece of video game hardware in Japan and it managed to sell 40,068 units during the week that ended on May 5, which is a slight drop when compared to the numbers it put up during the previous week.

The PlayStation Vita is a distant second, according to data from Media Create quoted by NeoGAF, and the Sony handheld has managed to deliver 17,888 devices to its own fans, which is a drop of about 8,000.

The more worrying news for the company is that the PlayStation 4 home console has seen a decline in its own fortunes and has gone to a little over 8,600 in sales, coming from 11,692.

The PlayStation 3 is right on its heels and the Wii U has also managed to sell 8,065 consoles.

In the video game space, the best sold title for the week is Yo-kai Watch, with sales of 58,988 units in seven days.

The rest of the top ten includes: Mario Golf: World Tour, Mario Party: Island Tour, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Puzzle & Dragons Z, Wii Party U, Pokemon X & Y and New Super Mario Bros. U.
