The PlayStation Portable handheld and the PlayStation 3 home-gaming console managed to take the first and second spots in the Japanese hardware charts for the week ending on January 30, according to information delivered by tracking firm Media Create, while newly released The Last Story managed to be the best sold video game.

The PSP has seen a small slowdown in actual sales, going from 35,636 during the previous week to 34,648 but still managed to be number one as other consoles did not manage to significantly increase their sales.

The PlayStation 3 went to 25,149 units from 23,792 to take second spot with the Nintendo Wii home gaming consoles taking third as it managed to gain close to 5,000 units in sales to reach 19,448.

The DSi LL handheld has posted sales of 11,891, almost unchanged over the previous seven day period while the DSi has gone from 8,990 to 9,611.

The Xbox 360 has sold better than the PS2, the DS Lite and the PSP Go, a device that made a habit out of closing the hardware chart.

It's unlikely that the order will change significantly ahead of the February 26 launch of the new Nintendo 3DS, which will probably then top the chart for some time.

The Last Story is a role-playing game created by Mystwalker for the Nintendo Wii and it managed to sell 114,722 units in its first week on the market to be number one in the video game chart.

Valkyria Chronicles is another new entry for the PSP that took second place, selling no less than 102,779 copies in its first week, while the last top three position went to My Little Sister Can't be This Cute Portable for the PSP, with sales of 88,492.

The rest of the top ten is made up of Kenka Bancho 5: Laws of Manhood, Magical Index Term, Dragon Age: Origins, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, Dream Club Zero, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep – Final Mix and Donkey Kong Country Returns.
