The Nintendo 3DS seems destined for a long and fruitful reign at the top of the Japanese hardware chart while Fire Emblem Awakening has managed to get to the top of the video game chart in order to deliver a two-pronged success for Nintendo.

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell 84,760 units during the week that ended on April 22, according to figures from Media Create, which is an increase over the 63,796 it managed during the previous week, mostly because of the new video game releases.

The PlayStation 3 continues to stay in second place, although it has seen a small decline in overall sales, going from 17,765 to 16,390.

The older version of the PlayStation Portable has also lost sales, reaching a new low of 11,179, sliding from 13,166, while the newer PlayStation Vita has also posted a decline, selling just 8,206 units in one week.

The Nintendo Wii is in fifth place with sales of 7.025, leading the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 2 and the various older versions of the DSi.

Fire Emblem Awakening, from Nintendo and for the 3DS handheld, has topped the video game chart this week with sales of 242,600 copies during its first week on sale.

Code of Princess from Agatsuma, another new release for the 3DS, has performed in a less impressive manner, moving 19,554 units to players in a seven-day period.

The last place on the podium was taken by yet another 3DS game, Super Mario 3D Land, which shows lasting power and delivered another 14,491 units to gamers.

The rest of the top ten includes: 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume, Monster Hunter 3G, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Kid Icarus Uprising, Mario Kart 7, Chou Rich Tamagotchi Puchi Puchi Omisecchi and Detective Conan: Prelude From the Past.
