The newly launched Nintendo 3DS handheld has managed to continue its very good run for the week that ended on March 6, according to information about the Japanese video game market that was reported by tracking firm Media Create.

The new Nintendo device, which allows gamers to enjoy full three-dimensional gaming without using the glasses that are needed on home consoles, has sold 209,623 units in its first full week of sales, which is down from the 374,764 devices that were moved to gamers in just the launch weekend.

Meanwhile the rival PlayStation Portable from Sony has also seen a boost in its numbers, going up to 76,246 units after the 47,955 it has managed during the previous week, probably linked to the launch of the Dissidia: 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy video game.

The PlayStation 3 managed to take third place in the Japanese hardware chart, also seeing an increase in units sold to 25,918 coming from 23,654 during the previous week.

The Wii is in fourth place for the week, with 11,654 units sold, a decline of about 500 platforms, while the now old DSi LL handheld from Nintendo has sold just 8,951 units.

The normal DSi managed to sell better than the Xbox 360, the PS2 and the PSP Go, which managed to sell better than the very old normal DS Lite.

Dissidia: 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy from publisher Square Enix has sold 286,117 copies on the PSP during the first week on sale, taking first spot in the video game chart with another new entry, Way of the Samurai 4 from Spike, for the PlayStation 3, managed to take second place with 70,380 units sold.

Despite the huge success of the Nintendo 3DS games for it have not performed very well, with Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle from Level 5 coming in third, with sales of 59,138.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: SD Gundam G Generation: World, Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog / Shiba / Toy Poodle & New Friends, Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity, Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars - Blue / Red, Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 and Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto - Ginga Bishounen Densetsu.
